CECILIA COPELAND is a Welsh, Midwestern, Latin-American, Catholic/Jewish/Agnostic Non-Princess and legal resident of Australia who chooses to live in her adopted home, New York.

She began her playwriting career after Graduating from the New York Stella Adler Studio, Conservatory Class, in 1998. 
She holds a Theatre BA with Honors, Emphasis in Playwriting and a Minor in Dance, from The University of Iowa, and Playwriting MFA Ohio University.

Full length works:
LIGHT OF NIGHT, upcoming production for IATI Theater for their reopening in 2013. The play was developed at  New Dramatists and Arts/West. The hopeful team for the next embodiment of this daring play would include all original team from the Staged Reading last March:

'THE WICKED SON' A PASSOVER PLAY, Friday Night Footlights at the Dramatists Guild of America, Directed by JOHN GOULD RUBIN.

Flamenco Musical, TIENE DUENDE(IT HAS SOUL) read at the Stella Adler Studio and Ohio University. Directed by Tlaloc Rivas.

COURTING, Produced by Stage Left Productions, New Play Competition Winner, 2008. 
BIOLIFE, Finalist for The Marin Theatre's David Calicchio Emerging Playwright's Prize, 2011.
RIPTIDE, Finalist for Seven Devils Playwrights Conference, 2009.

VELVET EGGS, commissioned by Overturn Theatre Ensemble and Culturefix Gallery, 2011.
Starring Trevor Long and Anna Lamadrid. Directed by Shannon Fillion.
AMUSEMENT BOMBER, adapted into a short film for Artemis Productions with a Grant Awarded by Metro Screen Australia. Directed by Gregory George. 
PLAYING, produced in the UDF Festival at University of Iowa and First Honorable Mention Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival. 
ONE WOMAN, produced for SWAN Day in 2008 and winner of the Lennis J Holm Scholarship for Playwriting.  Excerpts of One Woman were read on KRUI Radio the week of and in the University of Iowa’s New Play Festival, 2008.

Cecilia is the Founder and Artistic Director ofNew York Madness, a Member of the 50/50 in 2020 movement, and the Dramatists Guild of America.

She interned with id Theatre Sit In Series, 13th Street Repertory, Women's Project, and NEW DRAMATISTS. She has taught Theater History I, II, and II, Theater Experience, Performance Studies, and Playwriting at Ohio University. She has also designed and taught a flagship course combining Acting and Playscript Analysis at her Alma Mater Stella Adler Studio. This fallCecilia will partner with the Performing Arts High School to teach playwriting and produce new work.
